Choosing The Best Tower Fan For Your Home
The main purpose of tower fans is to help keep rooms cool in an efficient and effective manner. There are a ton of these available in a whole range of styles, different features and different sizes. Picking the right one for your room can just get complicated. A large number of people will typically go for a pedestal fan because it is a cheaper option. We have done a guide on those which you can read by clicking here.
We have also done a detailed guide on table and desktop fans which are also a cheaper option.
What Are Tower Fans?
As you may know pedestal fans are circular spinning fans that sit up on a pedestal. Tower fans on the other hand are usually tall and thin, and they stand upright on the floor. The problem with pedestal fans is that they are rather unsightly in a room.
Tower fans on the other hand look very stylish and can be placed in an area of the room where they are essentially out of the way. You can adjust the height and they work on a principle of oscillating the air. This is the common method used for all fans.
The average price for a good quality tower fan is around $70
Below I have completed a a Top 10 Comparison Table of the best tower fans available right now. I have also completed beneath that a quick buying guide and below that a short review on each of the top 10 products in all of the Tower range of fans.

Best Tower Fan – A Detailed Tower Fan Buying Guide
When shopping for a new tower fan the first thing is to know the size of the room in your house or in the office. Many people overlook this part and end up buying one that is too small to be effective in a larger room. Some people also buy a very powerful fan that is just to big for a smallish room.
To measure a room just multiply the length breadth and height of a room to get the cubic foot size. For example a room that is 15 feet x 15 feet x 8 feet will be 1,800 cubic feet. For something like a ceiling fan this is more important, but even for the tower type it is still important to consider.
Any fan you buy, including a top rated tower fan, should give a clear indication what size of area it can cool. When you have the accurate measurements of your room, then it is easy to match those to the recommended information of the manufacturer.
These tower fans can filter the air. That helps keep it clean but it also means you may have to replace an air filter. These can be expensive depending on the model and brand. You also have the hassle of doing that as well.
If we were being brutally honest, in our experience very few people actually do and that can cause fan burn out. We know because we have fixed many fans over the years.
Some models use ionisation as a filtering method. That helps remove smells as well and this is what we would recommend to you. You pay a little extra but that is a good investment.
I have put this feature high up on the list because we think it is very important. Having a timer gives you great control. If for example you were using this in your bedroom, you can put this on a timer to switch off when you fall asleep. That means you do not wake up in the morning too cold.
It is also a set and forget feature. Rather than forget to turn the fan off, you simply put it on a timer and you are good to go.
You do want air to circulate around a room quickly. You will also want to be able to watch TV, listen to some music or if using one of these in the bedroom, be able to sleep. The last thing you need is a noisy fan to really irritate you or keep you awake.
Some models are better than others to achieve that.
You can get these types of fan with variable speeds. We would recommend that you never buy one that doesn’t have a few speeds (at least 3). Sometimes you will want a quick blast at a high speed to cool room quickly. At other times you may simply want a gentle air circulating in your room.
Controls and Remote Control
We would recommend checking the control panel and make sure it is easy to use. Ideally it should come with a remote that allows you to make any adjustments that you want without having to leave your armchair. Yes – another remote control for Dad!!!
Is It Child Proof?
If you have young kids running around, then you would probably prefer a tower fan to most other types that use blades. That is one of the main reasons why people buy these in the first place. Tower fans are safer but at the end of the day they sit on the floor and kids will run into them.
We would recommend that you buy one that is durable, pretty solid and if they get knocked over do they have an automatic cut-off? We think that is an important thing to consider.
If you plan on using this in one room then weight is probably not that big of a deal. If however you plan on moving this from room to room, then weight should be considered. Typically these weigh about 10-12 pounds which is not that heavy, but for frail people could be a problem.
You will of course also want to check warranties and guarantees. Ideally they should also be energy efficient and environmentally friendly.
Home Tower Fan Reviews
When considering a tower fan for your home, the main thing to consider as I have mentioned is room size. After that it comes down to the power of the motor, the number of different speeds, how quiet the fan is and most importantly how long it will actually last.
Rather than use expensive air conditioning one of these can save you money on utility costs as they are inexpensive to run. They do not need a lot of maintenance other than a clean once a month to get rid of any build ups of dust. That can gather in behind the cage and will need cleaned.
Top Rated Tower Fans
Below we have included summary reviews on the top rated tower fans, that are currently available in the market. We take these ratings from actual buyer reviews. In other words, people who have bought the product, used it for a period, and then taken the time to leave a review. That is always better than listening to some marketing blurb.
The brands Lasko, Soleus, Bionaire, Honeywell and Dyson are the best known brand for these particular types of fan.
No 1 Choice – Lasko 4820 Xtra Air Tower Fan with Fresh Air Ionizer
At number 1 on our list is this fairly new release from Lasko. It comes with the ioniser and has what is termed widespread oscillation. That simply means it sweeps the room very well and provides air to all of the room.
Like most it has 3 speeds, illuminated electronic controls, a timer and is also remote control. It is not difficult to see why this one is so popular. The biggest drawback with this one, is the higher price tag.
At $65 this is a well priced option, and you are buying a high quality product, that buyers rate very highly indeed.
No 2 choice – NLasko 2551 Wind Curve Platinum Tower Fan With Remote Control and Fresh Air Ionizer
This one costs around $60 and although it is at number 2 on our list, it still attracts really good reviews and plenty of people have bought this product. When you see a fan with over 6,000 buyer reviews over at Amazon, you know that it sells well.
The only issues here is that this fan has been around for quite a while. Since it was first produced many others have come out, that have additional features. We would say this one is reliable and has stood the tests of time.
It has just now become a little out dated with so many newer products to pick from. That said it still is a top seller and it can certainly be depended upon.
No 3 Choice – Soleus Air 35″ Tower Fan with Remote Control, # FC-35R-A
This one has 3 fan speeds, a nice gliding oscillation. It also comes with a remote control.
A nice set of LED lights clearly show the fan settings. There is also a useful 7.5 hour timer which means the fan can shut itself off should you happen to forget. That is a useful safety features, and also saves on the power bill.
This is an ideal choice we think for the bedroom as it is a very quiet fan.
No 4 Choice – Lasko #2554 42-Inch Wind Curve Fan with Remote
This one looks great and performs very well indeed.
There are over 6,000 buyer reviews at Amazon and that shows that this fan sells in its thousands.
It is a good quality product at a very good price, and that makes it very popular with buyers.
No 5 Choice – Lasko 4443 40″ Hybrid Fan
It is around $65 to buy and gets 4.3 out of 5 stars as a rating by over 900 buyers at Amazon. There is a nice wide oscillation on this one as well.
In terms of the word hybrid this simply means that it uses a horizontal fan in the base that pushes air upwards and then out of the tower.
The manufacturer states that this delivers up to 30% more air than other compatible tower fans.
Honeywell Comfort Control Tower Fan, HY-025
It has three speeds, and a selection of timers such as 1,2, 4 and 8 hours.
The controls are simple to use.
If you are looking for the best budget tower fan, then this is a perfect choice for you.
You can read other reviews by actual buyers at Amazon by clicking here.
Ozeri 3x Tower Fan (44″) with Passive Noise Reduction
There are three fans inside this appliance with 3 speeds on each so in essence you have 9 choices when it comes to speed.
This one although tall is very thin. It also has remote control and it has a 7.5 hour timer as well. A very good machine but expensive at almost $100.
Lasko #2510 Tower Fan, 36-Inch
The 2510 model from Lasko is a 36″ fan and costs just under $50. This is at the lower end of the price scale and is a good little fan. It is made from plastic but then most of these tower fans are, so do not let that put you off at all.
It has 3 speeds and touch control operation but has no remote control capability. This is a neat and small fan for someone who does not have a lot of space in their room.
Lasko Ultra Air 48″ 3-Speed Performance Tower Fan
This one used to be right at the top of the ratings with a huge 4.8 out of 5 stars. However as the reviews have increased that rating has dropped to 4 stars. Now it does still sell. I think the main reason for the drop is to do with the actual price.
The fan appears to work very well, but at around $90-95, perhapss buyers expect more for their money.
It is 4 feet tall, comes with a highly functional remote control, has the option of an ionizer, an automatic timer and a really nice oscillation radius.
Arctic-Pro Digital Screen Tower Fan with Remote Control
It is from a company called ARCTICPRO and has 3 speeds, a remote control and 80 degrees of oscillation.
This one is tall and generates a really nice flow of air.
How To Clean A Tower Fan – Step by step
Here is a really good video on how to change filters and clean a typical tower fan. Just remember if you buy one of these, it is important to maintain. If you do it will just last far longer.
